JOE HUNTER
1927-2007
Please join me in saying goodbye to yet another soul legend. As the leader of Motown's first rhythm section, Joe Hunter played piano on all of those great 'early' Tamla sides, and was fundamental in developing Berry Gordy's 'Sound Of Young America'. He had just returned from a European tour with fellow Funk Brother Jack Ashford, when he was found dead in his apartment in Detroit on Saturday, apparently from natural causes. A much loved local figure, Joe did session work for other Detroit studios (like Golden World) after leaving Motown in 1964. The 2002 Film Standing In The Shadows Of Motown has helped to bring Joe and the rest of the 'Brothers' some of the recognition they deserve.
You've Really Got A Hold On Me
This is one of my top five favorite songs of all time. Sometimes it's number one.
That's Joe Hunter playing the piano.
May God Rest His Soul.
one of my faves too, red
ReplyDeleteOh yes! This is sometimes my favorite song, too! And this version is great! I even really love the beatles singing it.
