Night Time Is The Right Time
Alright, everybody! Things are really beginning to pick up steam here with our Sir Lattimore benefit.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of WWOZ dee-jay Allan 'Alski' Laskey (who's already begun plugging the show on the air) Sir Lattimore is scheduled to appear on Andrew Grafe's great Blues Eclectic program at 2:15 New Orleans time on Monday, April 27th. You can stream their excellent broadcast (and help support the best station in the nation) here.
Also, I'm not sure if you noticed yet, but I've decided to use souldetective.com as 'information central' for the benefit, just as we did with ovwright.org last fall. Be on the lookout for our Fourth Annual Soul Detective Mystery Contest, and we'll be back bigger and better than ever very soon... God willing.
I'd also like to take a moment here to thank Richard down at the Banks Street Bar for allowing us to hold the benefit at his way cool establishment. Richard's partnership with Sweet Home New Orleans in presenting their bi-monthly Old School R&B Nights at his club demonstrates his ongoing commitment to keeping the music alive. In a town with so much going on this time of year, we're so glad that we were able to book the Banks Street to showcase Sir Lattimore's return to the stage. I can't think of anyplace else I'd rather be!
If you're planning on joining us, we'd be happy to add your name to our guest list. Simply click on the ticket above, and you'll be directed to a page where your donation of $15 per person will get you in the door.
This smokin' slab of pure in-your-face R&B that we have here hails from the days when Lattimore ruled the earth from his perch high atop the Atmosphere Lounge in Dallas. His amazing call and response with the band here takes this Nappy Brown/Brother Ray classic to the next level, and offers a glimpse of what it must have been like out there on the circuit in those days. More than just a singer, his role as a bandleader, club-owner and booking agent made him a force to be reckoned with. It is truly an honor to be involved in getting him back out there where he belongs. It's gonna be something else!
While I'm at it here, I'd also like to call your attention to the upcoming addition to Soulscape's 'John Richbourg Sessions' series, Nobody Has To Tell Me, which will gather together all of Lattimore's Sound Stage 7, Seventy Seven, and Renegade sides for the first time ever. Lovingly remastered, this must-have package will also feature an expanded 12 page booklet with liner notes by yours truly and the inimitable John Ridley. Look for it soon at garryjcape.com
I'll see you in New Orleans!
