There Are No Words

It is with a heavy heart that I must report to you that our friend Willie Mitchell passed this morning at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. Words cannot express how much this giant of a man meant to all of us.

I will be posting funeral arrangements as they are finalized.

May God Rest His Soul

  10. My deepest sympathy to Willie's friends, family and fans. I have been looking forward to Solomon Burke's new album which Willie produced last year, I know it will be a great tribute to one of the true greats of Soul.

  11. It's amazing that Willie was still an active producer, and a great one, at his age. Stax died, got torn town and rebuilt - all while Wille just kept on doing his thing over at Royal Recording. I was blessed to have met him a couple of times down there back when I lived in Memphis. For many years, he and Sam Phillips (no relation, sad to say) lived on the same street in East Memphis, South Mendenhall Road; and whenever I was driving down it, I couldn't help thinking about the overwhemling amount of musical history those two men created. As did Sam, rest his soul, Willie changed the whole damn world and made it a better place, giving all the rest of us a lot to enjoy, and live up to. He was one classy and classic dude. Gonna miss him, Red.
